Program

The Summer School is intended for graduate students, PhD students, and young scientists active in solid state research (chemistry, physics), geo-sciences, crystallography, and materials science.

Aim of the school is to give an overview on different synthesis approaches for the preparation of inorganic materials and the most commonly used characterization techniques.

During the Summer School the following topics will be addressed:
Synthesis of inorganic functional materials such as
• Nanoporous materials by hydrothermal synthesis and casting methods
• Solid-state reactions, sol-gel methods, co-precipitation, mechanochemical synthesis
• Thin film synthesis
• Crystal growth of single crystal materials for opto-electronical applications
Characterization methods such as
• Electron microscopy
• Single crystal and powder diffraction methods
• Total scattering methods for disordered and amorphous materials
• Small angle scattering
• Neutron scattering
• X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy
• IR, Raman, NMR methods
• DFT methods

The participants are encouraged to present their work as posters during evening sessions. Individual problems will be discussed.
