With the Karl-Ziegler-Guest Professorship, the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung honors outstanding scientists for their achievements in the field of chemistry and invites them to a three-day visit at the institute.

In May 2022, Professor David Milstein will come to Mülheim an der Ruhr and give three lectures at the Max-Planck-Institute für Kohlenforschung. The visit was originally planned for 2020 had to be postponed due to the Corona pandemic.

David Milstein is Professor at the Department of Molecular Chemistry and Materials Science at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot. Until 2005, he headed the Department of Organic Chemistry, and in 2000, he founded the Kimmel Center for Molecular Design at the Weizmann Institute, which he chaired until 2017.

David Milstein’s research focuses on organometallic chemistry and the development of transition metal catalysts. He designs sustainable synthetic reactions and develops new approaches for the activation of strong bonds - e.g., so-called "pincer" complexes. Milstein also conducts research on approaches to CO₂ utilization and in the area of hydrogen production from sustainable resources.

David Milstein is involved in numerous scientific committees and has been invited to give a large number of Distinguished Named Lectureships. He is member of numerous academies, including the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Leopoldina, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Royal Society. His numerous scientific awards include the ACS Somorjai Award for Creative Research in Catalysis (2020), the Israel Prize for Chemistry and Physics (2012), and the Blaise Pascal Medal in Chemistry from the European Academy of Sciences (2019).

Mit der Karl-Ziegler-Gastprofessur zeichnet das Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung hervorragende Wissenschaftler*innen aus dem In- und Ausland für ihre Leistungen im Bereich der Chemie aus und lädt sie zu einem mehrtägigen Austausch ein.

Im Mai 2022 wird Professor David Milstein seinen ursprünglich für 2020 geplanten Besuch als Karl-Ziegler-Gastprofessor durchführen und drei Vorlesungen am Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung halten. David Milstein ist Professor am Department for Molecular Chemistry and Materials Science, Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot. Bis 2005 leitete er die Abteilung für Organische Chemie, 2000 gründete er das Kimmel Center for Molecular Design am Weizmann Institute, dem er bis 2017 vorstand.

David Milstein befasst sich mit metallorganischer Chemie und der Entwicklung von Übergangsmetall-Katalysatoren. Er entwirft nachhaltige synthetische Reaktionen und entwickelt neue Ansätze für die Aktivierung starker Bindungen – z.B. sogenannte „Pincer“-Komplexe. Milstein forscht darüber hinaus an Ansätzen zur CO2 Nutzung sowie im Bereich der Wasserstofferzeugung aus nachhaltigen Ressourcen.

David Milstein ist in zahlreichen wissenschaftlichen Gremien engagiert und wurde zu einer Vielzahl von Namensvorlesungen eingeladen. Er ist Mitglied zahlreicher Akademien, wie der Israelischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, der Leopoldina, der National Academy of Sciences und der Royal Society.
